Trans Resilience Open Mic Night
You are invited to the Trans Resilience Open Mic in honor of Trans Day of Remembrance, taking place in person at Blackbird Infoshop 587 Abeel St. “Kingston, NY” on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Doors at 2pm, show starts at 3pm.
We steward this open mic to invite community into co-creating a space where we can uplift the lives of our trans siblings, comrades, & members of the greater collective who’ve passed on. The stage is yours, for telling a story about a trans ancestor, songs (your own or covers), poems, spoken word, live drawing, video, or whatever else you feel inspired to share or have witnessed. We will do our best to support whatever you are thinking of, we only ask that it is in some way inspired by or connected to the Trans Day of Remembrance. Contact us with any questions or requests.
To learn more or sign up in advance go to TinyURL.com/TROM-SignUp. This cryptpad form is your opportunity to sign up in advance (if you want to!) but you can also wait to sign up in person the day of instead. Please sign up in advance if you have any set-up needs or requests we should know about!
Alongside the open mic will be available space to: write the names of those who’ve passed in the last year down on a paper scroll, pay respects at a communal altar, and collaborate on a piece of community art that will be on display at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Center.
Due to the personal & sensitive nature of these performances, there will be no remote attendance for this event.
This is a community event supported by & happening in tandem with an event taking place at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Center on Nov 20th, 6:30-10pm. The event on Nov. 20th will hold space to acknowledge & read the names of those who’ve passed in the last year, work on a collaborative community art project, and take part in a ritual which will open the event at 7pm.
