Sonny Rollins Documentary: Saxophone Colossus + A Conversation with Filmmaker Robert Mugge

Opus 40 and Upstate Films present a 40th anniversary screening of Robert Mugge’s 1986 Sonny Rollins documentary, “Saxophone Colossus,” at Opus 40. The screening will be preceded by a discussion featuring filmmaker Robert Mugge, Sonny Rollins biographer Aidan Levy, and former Opus 40 Artistic Director Tad Richards.

Edited from his 1986 concerts at Opus 40 in Upstate New York and Tokyo, Japan, this music documentary features intimate conversations with jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, his wife (also his manager), and many critics who laud the musician’s dedication to improv.
