Artist Talk – Stephen Honicki – “Of A Certain Age – Stories of Gay Male Elders in the Hudson Valley”
Join artist, Stephen Honicki, as he discusses and shows work from his series, “Of A Certain Age – Stories of Gay Male Elders in the Hudson Valley”. This series, a community-based photography project, explores and celebrates the lives of gay men over 50; a generation who have lived through the AIDS epidemic and have also been part of the progress of LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in our country over the past 50 years.
Through environmental portraits and video interviews, this project offers men the opportunity to share stories and reflect upon their experiences in a video interview. Text from those interviews will be incorporated with the environmental portraits; giving viewers another layer of each man’s history. Topics such as body image and sexuality, physical and spiritual health, work, friendships and relationships will be explored through this project.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrants program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson.
