Big Gay Hudson Valley rallied 250+ volunteers and

Big Gay Hudson Valley rallied 250+ volunteers and thousands of spectators on May 17, 2024 to parade two of the world’s largest rainbow flags across the Walkway Over the Hudson for their inaugural Pride in the Sky celebration, kicking off Pride season in New York’s Hudson Valley.

The flag sections are part of a larger original which was handcrafted in 2003 by Gilbert Baker - the designer of the original rainbow flag - to commemorate the 25th anniversary of our iconic community symbol. The original was 1.2 miles long and famously spanned the island of Key West. After that festival the flag was divided up and continues to this day to travel around the world celebrating the heritage of our LGBTQ+ community. These sections made it to the Hudson Valley thanks to the support of Scott Seitz of @spi_marketing and the @gilbert_baker_foundation.

Pride season is upon us! As part of Big Gay Hudson Valley’s presence across the region we’re presenting Kingston’s first Proud Pet Paw-Rade on Saturday afternoon June 15th.

This is just one of the many events coming to the first capital of New York the weekend of June 13 - 16.

One of the world’s largest rainbow flags is coming to the Hudson Valley this Friday, May 17th for Big Gay Hudson Valley’s Pride In The Sky celebration on the Walkway Over The Hudson!

Measuring 16 ft wide and nearly 1000 feet long we have more than 150 flag marshals that have volunteered to carry this GIANT flag from Dutchess to Ulster County at 7:30p that evening!

This flag was handcrafted in 2003 by Gilbert Baker - the designer of the original rainbow flag - to commemorate the 25th anniversary of our iconic community symbol. The original was 1.2 miles long and iconically spanned the island of Key West. While the whole flag is no longer intact, we’re excited to be showcasing the largest remaining portion of this piece of queer history.
