National Coming Out Day Panel Discussion

Across the spectrum and diversity of our LGBTQ+ community, there is the shared experience of coming out. Join us as we mark the 36th anniversary of National Coming Out Day with a special multigenerational discussion.

Coming out is like a makeover of your identity and sense of self – it can be easy, hard, traumatic, liberating – there are lots of stories and examples of coming out.

Our multigenerational panel will share their stories of coming out. We’ll compare and contrast the changing nature of coming out in the 36 years since National Coming Out Day came into being. Together, we’ll laugh at the sometimes funny aspects of this universal act, and we’ll support one another with those tough moments of coming into our own.

Panel members: Willie Morris, President of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center; Bonnie Wager, former board member and a member of the Friends group; Ben Rendich, Facilitator of the Community Center’s ManKind Group and Syd Bonelli.

“Coming Out as a Continuing and Challenging Process” is coordinated by Fred Mayo as part of the Community Center’s Friends Group.

Parking for the event is available on the surrounding streets (no need to feed the meter after 6pm!) and in the municipal lots on North Front Street and at the corner of Fair Street and Schwenk Drive.

Free. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
