CRUX LGBTQ Climbing – Anchor Building Class

WHO WE ARE

CRUX Climbing is dedicated to expanding access to the sport of rock climbing and outdoor recreation for LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities in the NY-metropolitan area.

Outside of the LGBTQIA community and want to support CRUX? Your financial and volunteer support go a long way towards CRUX’s advocacy for LGBTQIA access to the sport. This allows us to hold safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQIA participants at our events. Email info@climbcrux.org to get involved!

SET UP TOP ROPES OUTSIDE!

One of the major parts of safety in climbing is the anchor. We top rope on it, descend from it, and–in the case of multi-pitch–hang from it while belaying. Learn how to build SERENE anchors: from setting simple sport anchors on bolts to evaluating and using natural objects with static line and slings. This course is being offered through the EMS Climbing School in Gardiner, NY. This is a special one-day version of the two-day class typically run at EMS. It has been expertly organized and adapted by CRUX favorite Carolyn Riccardi who has graciously agreed to teach the course again this year. The cost of this CRUX class is lower than you’d be able to get as an individual looking to do this on your own. The price will include the introductory lessons, use of EMS technical gear, and a gear list to help you shop for your own anchor building gear.

This class is designed for people with experience top rope climbing and top rope belaying.

RESERVE YOUR SPOT SOON!

This class must have 8 participants to run. If we don’t have 8 people registered by Friday, May 19th, we will cancel or reschedule, because EMS has a 14 day advance notice cancellation policy for full refunds.

REFUNDS

CRUX would be stuck making up the difference if we had fewer than 8 participants. For this reason, there are NO REFUNDS unless the class is cancelled. If you can no longer make it, we can contact folks on the waitlist to try to help you find someone to take your spot, but you will not receive a refund until your spot is taken by someone else.

If either EMS or CRUX decide to cancel the class, you will receive a full refund.
