Clue (Outdoor Screening)

An utter flop reviled upon release as a crass knock-off of a popular board game, Clue has been reappraised as a classic whodunit serious in its ridiculousness. (Remember when adapting IP like a certain Mattel doll wasn’t a thing?) It’s New England, 1954. On a stormy night, six strangers arrive at Hill House for dinner, instructed to use  pseudonyms like Col. Mustard to protect their identity.  Each is already suspicious of the others when their host, Mr. Boddy, drops dead, as each one presumes the other did the deed. To make matters worse, more bodies drop. With a standout cast including Tim Curry, Lesley Ann Warren and Michael McKean – and three endings, each resolving the whodunit murder in different, increasingly loopy ways. (dir. Jonathan Lynn, U.S., 1985, 94 min.)

This should not work, but it’s eminently rewatchable and assembles one of the best funny casts ever. Wildly entertaining.” — Slashfilm

To celebrate Olana’s outdoor exhibition What’s Missing? (June 14 – November 2, 2025), arrive early for an “art mystery” scavenger hunt prior to the film.
