What do “Make Believe”, “Lover” and “Bears” make you think of? A sultry round of gay fan fiction? Perhaps – we’ll put that on our to do list. But the more important answer is Tom Goss!
The nationally acclaimed out singer/songwriter will be headlining the next installment of BGHV’s monthly gay bar series, The Meet Market, on Saturday April 18th in Downtown Poughkeepsie.
Having recently relocated from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, the Meet Market is one of the stops of Tom’s current tour of the Northeast. Tom’s work has earned him honors like “Best Musician” (The Washington Blade) two years running and his songs have been featured on shows on ABC, HBO and MTV’s Logo. His recently completed Kickstarter campaign raised nearly $20K to help him produce a new album and continue to create songs and music videos that highlight the diversity and love of the LGBT community.
Goss has built a reputation as an activist and spokesperson for the LGBT community having played at pride events all over the country – including Hudson Valley Pride in New Paltz a few years ago. His four albums have allowed him to tell his unique story (Goss had once set his sights on being a priest) and tackle issues such as DADT and marriage equality. His music video for “Lover” tells the story of a soldier killed in Afghanistan while his husband waits at home.
On a lighter note Goss is also outspoken in his love of the bear community having dedicated his aptly named hit “Bears” to his many friends who also identify as ursine.
