A few months ago – at my day job as the Director of Communications for The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park – I received a call from OUT; the nation’s largest gay and lesbian magazine.
They were looking to do a story about the Hudson Valley of New York, and they were interested in visiting The Culinary Institute of America so that they could include it in their write-up about a culinary themed road trip in our area. While I had them on the phone, I asked if they had heard of BGHV. OUT had not, but they were anxious to learn more about the site and receive some suggestions from us as to where else they should consider for their article.
We gave them a long list of ideas for stops on their road trip, including places like Liberty View Farm in Highland, bluecashew in Rhinebeck, The Madalin Hotel in Tivoli, Chill in Beacon, Bittersweet & Babycakes in Poughkeepsie, as well as Lucky Chocolates in Saugerties. Unfortunately they could not include everyone, but the article that they did end up writing for the June/July issue of OUT is a way for us here in the Hudson Valley to remind more LGBTQ folks and their allies that our Big Gay Hudson Valley is a great place to call home.
The story can be found in the issue currently on the newsstands, or you can check it out online.
We hope you enjoy it, and if you too are a LGBTQ business owner or ally here in the Hudson Valley, please be sure to tell us about yourself. We never know when we might have an opportunity to tell someone about you.
