Big Gay Hudson Valley Announces The First-Ever Baby Goat Weekend at Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie
BGHV is Not “Kidding” Around; New Upstate Gay Adventures Series Offers The LGBTQ Community New & Unique Hands-On Experiences in the Hudson Valley
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – January 22, 2018 – Big Gay Hudson Valley is offering something new for 2018 – Upstate Gay Adventures that have been created to escape from the daily grind and show you the Hudson Valley as we know it: hands-on, memorable and totally unique. Kicking off this new series is Baby Goat Weekend at Sprout Creek Farm on March 10th and 11th. We know it’s winter – but life on the farm continues year-round. March is baby goat season, and this is your chance to frolic upstate with loads of those fuzzy little ‘kids’.
Taking place at beautiful Sprout Creek Farm in the rolling hills of Dutchess County, this two day event was created for all of us who always wanted to truly experience life on the farm. The creator of many award-winning cheeses this working dairy farm is situated on 200 acres just 90 minutes north of New York City in Poughkeepsie, NY. BGHV’s Baby Goat Weekend was designed to give participants the exclusive opportunity to get up close with Sprout Creek’s newest residents – the fluffy and bouncy newborns that call the farm home.
“We’re thrilled to bring the community together at Sprout Creek Farm for Baby Goat Weekend”, explained Stephan Hengst, Big Gay Hudson Valley’s co-founder. “Events like Out on The Farm have called Sprout Creek Farm home for the last four years, and I am very excited about giving the queer community a truly unique and immersive experience at our favorite local farm this March. This will be the first of many overnight adventures we offer right here in Dutchess County in 2018.”
Occurring on their peak ‘kidding’ weekend, baby goat weekend attendees will work alongside Sprout Creek’s farmers and educators to milk and feed the goat moms (does), while feeding and frolicking with the dozens of newborn kids. They will also have the opportunity to meet and care for the cows, pigs, and poultry, and gain a deeper understanding of what goes into each gallon of milk, wheel of cheese and carton of eggs they produce. When not experiencing the joy of being surrounded by baby goats, participants will have the opportunity to learn how cheese is made, sample many of the varieties produced on the farm.
Throughout the weekend attendees will experience true farm-to-table cuisine with meals prepared by Chef Mark Fredette, a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, featuring ingredients grown at Sprout Creek Farm. On Saturday evening our guest goat herders will learn to pair Sprout Creek’s cheese with local wines from Millbrook Winery. During the evening participants can get to know their fellow farmers a little better while enjoying entertainment featuring live music from Fabulous Farmer John and Match Game with Hudson’s Trixie Starr. After waking up early on Sunday morning to milk the cows and feed the baby goats, attendees will have the opportunity to restore their chakras by participating in baby goat yoga before heading to a big gay brunch with all of their new friends.
With co-ed cabins on site, guests will rest comfortably in Sprout Creek Farms’ bunk beds after a great night of fun on the farm. With separate restroom facilities for men and women, everyone will have access to warm beds and hot showers after a busy day working outside/inside on the farm.
