Adrienne Truscott’s 24-Minute Misinterpretation of Song, Time, and Jeenyus

Form-busting performance artist Adrienne Truscott returns to the Spiegeltent as the one and lonely Païge Trnr, the forgotten cabaret legend and figment of her own imagination. Joined by an all-lady band (musical director Viva DeConcini on guitar, Brittany Anjou on keys, and Bernice ‘Boom Boom’ Brooks on drums), Païge is here to misinterpret and pervert some of the best and worst songs ever written. Païge will bring you to your feet (or knees) whether you like it or not, and whether she has autonomy over her body and her cocktails or not. Come! It’ll be so much pun.

The Band

Viva DeConcini (Taylor Mac, Christeene) wields her guitar like an angry woman would use a curling iron as a weapon; Brittany Anjou (Christeene, BiTyrant) will ‘lay waste’ to the keys if necessary, leaving only a powdery white substance to energize you for the revolution and Bernice ‘Boom Boom’ Brooks (Justin Vivian Bond, Taylor Mac) will hit the skins like there’s no tomorrow…because there might not be!

Adrienne Truscott

Adrienne TruscottAdrienne Truscott’s work crosses methodologies from dance, theater, comedy, and performance art, unfolding as drag, evening-length pieces, dances, and solos. She’s a Doris Duke and FCA grantee and her recent collaboration, Masterclass (with Brokentalkers), recently had its U.S. premiere at NYU Skirball and the Fisher Center after 2 years of international touring. Her works Grey Arias (with Le Gateau Chocolat), Wild Bore, & THIS continue to tour. She’s one half of the yet-to-retire Wau Wau Sisters, and her critically-acclaimed Adrienne Truscott’s Asking For It: A One-Lady Rape About Comedy Starring Her Pussy and Little Else is considered a game-changer at the performed intersection of rape culture, gender, and comedy and a precursor to Nanette. Her work has been presented at the Sydney Opera House, Sophiensale, Fusebox Festival, The Moth, MIT, Weirdo Night, CBGB’s, PS122, The Kitchen, MoMA (Chicago), and The Whitney. She coordinates the MA program in Human Rights and the Arts at Bard and is your Spiegeltent emcee.
