LOCAL AUDITIONS
Catskill Mountain Shakespeare seeking Professional Actors for a School Touring Production of The Tempest, directed by Jay Dunn.
Seeking non-AEA actors for all roles for a non-equity High School Touring Production of The Tempest. This tour will consist of a 60-90 minute performance of The Tempest with a small cohort of actors, as well as facilitating workshops within local schools and community venues.
We strongly encourage performers of all ethnicities, ages, sizes, genders, and abilities to submit. We care about your identity and we are holding consciousness about the stories that we tell by putting specific actors in specific roles. We will have gender fluid casting for this production and we encourage people from across the gender spectrum to audition.
All actors should have a strong sense of physicality, character work and embodied text. Shakespeare experience is a plus. Experience in devising and physical theater a plus, particularly within the Jacques Lecoq pedagogy.
Please specifically note on your resume:
- Shakespeare and/or clowning or devising experience
- Musical/percussion abilities including:
- An instrument you play & level – beginner (e.g. basic chords), intermediate (melodies & harmonies), advanced (strong rhythm, improvisation, knowledge of modes/scales/styles)
- Voice training & voice type/range
- Experience working with young people (teaching artist, camp counselor, youth instructor, etc)
- If you have a license and/or a reliable vehicle.
Please note this is a professional contract. Full time rehearsals are expected, and the show schedule is full time, often during the day.
Auditions: Sunday December 3rd from 12:30pm-5pm in Weisberg Hall at the Doctorow Center for the Arts on Main Street in Hunter, NY

Please send submissions to info@catskillmountainshakespeare.com & include your preferred audition window for December 3rd. Contract dates are March 18th – April 29th. Entire cast & crew must provide proof of vaccination and consent to a background check per NY State law working with children.
Please prepare a 2 minute classical monologue. Dramatic monologues should have accents of comedy/a sense of humor, and comedic monologues accents of drama/dropped in gravity. Please choose pieces that reflect some elements of greater physical and vocal expressivity than “psychological realism”.
