SUMMARY:Lesser Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:We are in the midst of a profound collective turning. Old paradigms are breaking down and we are being asked to grow our capacity to be with these endings. This work is essential. So is our attention to what is breaking through, what is being born from the compost of the old.\nAs Spring arrives in the Hudson Valley, you are invited into a series of offerings to gently tune your inner life to the season of rebirth. Through music, myth, and ritual—shaped by composer Kelli Scarr, mythologist Dr. Catherine Svehla, and ritualist Mary Evelyn Pritchard—we’ll affirm that endings are also beginnings.\nOn Friday, May 1, the spring arc culminates beneath the full moon within Harvey Fite’s monumental earthwork—a bluestone quarry once a site of industrial extraction, patiently transformed over forty years into a living work of art.\nLesser Mysteries at Opus 40 is an experiential community ritual inspired by the Eleusinian Mysteries. Guided by a living, improvised musical score performed by Scarr and members of Moonraker—reuniting for the first time in more than two decades—alongside Hudson Valley duo Miyaxx and a constellation of regional artists, the evening invites us into the spirit of improvisation as a blueprint for bringing dreams into form.\nIn communion with the land and one another, we’ll trace a transformational arc of dreaming, seeding, creating, and celebrating.\nWe’re building something beautiful together.\nLesser Mysteries at Opus 40 is part of the larger Greater Mysteries project, an evolving cycle of seasonal offerings that explore the sacred cycles of life, death, and rebirth through the timeless arts of music, myth, and ritual. Surrounding programs prepare and integrate the experience, creating an initiatory arc that honors both individual transformation and communal weaving.\nTogether, we are creating a living myth for our time.\n\n
